Accused in police custody
BHARUCH/SURAT: The local crime branch of Bharuch police arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in murder of Ankleshwar-based garage owner Shamin Khan (36) who was shot at point blank range on January 12 at his residence at Roshni Nagar.
The shooter was allegedly hired by Khan’s neighbour Mohammad Shahban Sheikh, said police.
Bharuch superintendent of police Rajendra Chudasama said, “During Diwali last year, Khan had accused Sheikh of being involved in his scooter being stolen.
Both have been at loggerheads since then and have been frequently fighting with each other.”
“Sheikh after deciding to bump off Khan approached one Roni of Uttar Pradesh who was earlier with him at Surat doing fabrication work. Roni stayed at Ankleshwar for two days and observed the movement of Khan and on January 12 night at around 9.30 pm Roni shot Khan at his residence when he was parking his bike. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead.”
During investigation, local crime branch found a clue from Khan’s family members who revealed about frequent quarrels with Sheikh. Police said Sheikh had confessed of hiring Roni to kill Khan.
The country-made gun used to kill Khan belonged to Sheikh’s elder brother. Both Sheikh and his elder brother were arrested on Monday. The shooter Roni, however, is still absconding, said Chudasama.
