SURAT: Household items in two houses were gutted in a fire that broke out at Razanagar-1, Bhathena here on Monday morning. However, there were no casualties. Leakage of gas from a cylinder started the fire on the first floor of a two-storey building.
Fire Brigade officers said the fire started in the kitchen of the house owned by Shekih Usman Bannu and Shekih Iqbal when someone lighted a matchstick.
There was gas in the kitchen because of leakage from the cylinder and soon there was a fire and it engulfed first and ground floors of the building. However, the residents managed to escape.
Fire Brigade officer Ranjit Khadia said, “Two houses were gutted in the fire. However, there were no casualties. The fire didn’t spread or else there could have been casualties because the building is located in a congested locality.”
