THANE: Residents of Wagle Estate had to face a shutdown of domestic gas supply early on Tuesday after a portion of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) pipeline at road no. 22 got ruptured.
Rescue officials, who reached the spot immediately with a fire engine and a rescue vehicle, claimed that the damage took place due to the ongoing underground water pipeline laying work near the bus depot at Wagle Estate.

Santosh Kadam of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), said, “The incident took place at around 3:30am. There was a JCB deployed at the spot and work of laying the pipes was being carried out. It is likely that while the contractor was working, the gas line could have been dislocated at a point.”
The MGL officials also rushed to the spot and cut off the connection to avoid further damage. An official from MGL said, “As a precautionary measure we immediately cut off gas supply in the area to avoid fire disasters. Our department immediately sent out employees to rectify the rupture in the line after which the supply was restored in a couple of hours.”
