UDAIPUR: An inter-caste marriage between a girl from Jain community and a Gurjar boy became a cause of tension for both side of families and police teams of two districts after protest and stone-pelting incidents took place outside Goverdhan Vilas police station here on Wednesday late night.
The couple had got married earlier this month and had obtained a court order for police protection.
Matter turned even complicated because the boy was already married and his wife had left home after she came to know about her husband's affair.
According to police, the girl was a resident of Parsad and was studying in an IIT coaching institute at Kota. She was in love with one Gurjar boy, resident of Baleecha in Udaipur city. The duo had grown closer through social media and fell in love. After the girl turned 18 recently, the couple held a secret marriage and the girl went missing from Kota where she had been living. Her parents reported a missing complaint at the Vigyan Nagar police station in Kota city, meanwhile, the couple went to Jodhpur and sought a police protection order from court. The couple met Udaipur SP on Wednesday and the officer directed the Goverdhan Vilas police to provide protection to them.
When the girl's family came to know of the incident, they went to the police station and tried to dissuade the girl from her decision. However, the girl remained adamant and refused to go with her parents. Meanwhile, the Kota police also arrived at the station and the boy's first wife and her family members too arrived. The mediation efforts that continued for some five hours failed and tension increased when some members tried to make force entry inside the station to meet the couple. Police said, the couple had court order for protection and if the first wife gave a written complaint against her husband, action would be taken accordingly.
