Abhijeet Sawant comes to Nagpur
Abhijeet Sawant who started his singing career with a reality show is back on his favourite turf, but this time as a mentor in a forthcoming singing reality show. On his recent visit to the city, he speaks about reality shows, Nagpur and more…
Many of his contemporaries have been judging or hosting various shows for years now. Ask him what took him so long (over five years) to be a part of a music show and he replies, “I was not too keen on being a contestant or a host of a reality show.
I decided to take it up now because I found my role as a mentor to be quite exciting and now I intend to give my genuine comments to the contestants.”
Abhijeet got fame via a reality show, but he clarifies that it really bothers him the way judges go overboard with their comments. “Reality shows sell false dreams to contestants. These days, some of the judges shower their praises on the contestants, which are highly exaggerated. They react to the performances saying ‘you are already a star’ and ‘I see you going directly to the studio after the show’, and sometimes even promise to give them a break. What irks me more is the fact that the comments come from people, who hardly have work themselves.
These shows are no doubt a huge platform for aspiring singers but one should consider these more as an examination. Real struggle starts once the show is over.” Mohabbatein Lutaunga singer has also given playback for Marathi films such as Mangalashtak Once More and Ishq Wala Love. Ask him if there are more Marathi films lined up for him and he says, “I would definitely want to sing for a lot of Marathi films, but currently I’m busy with other work commitments; my video single will also be out soon.”
Coming to the city after a long gap, Sawant is quite surprised with the development here. “Nagpur has developed a lot in all these years but what I found really endearing is that it is not over crowded. I can’t leave the city without the tempting santra barfi and that is the first thing I buy when I come to Nagpur.”
