Monsoon is here and chai-lovers of the city are making a beeline for their favourite cuppa to indugle in chit-chat and hangout sessions before the scorching summers. These chai kattas in the city are hotspots among the youngsters and an excuse to meet one another. Manohar Shukla, a BBA student from the city, says, “We have seen food trucks, but a chai katta is way cooler.
Whenever I visit this place at Telibandha Lake, I can’t help but feel relax and happy, thanks to a cuppa.”
On the idea behind the bus, Akshay says, “I was working with a software company in Raipur and was thinking about doing something different in the F&B industry. Kamlesh and I were contemplating a themed café at first but scrapped the idea. Suddenly, one day this idea of a chai bus struck us. Luckily, we got an old, school bus almost immediately, renovated it and turned it into a café.”
The bus has a kitchen inside and though it’s in a working condition, the duo hasn’t planned to move it around yet. City-based Shoaib Shaikh, who has customised the interiors of the bus, shares, “Accommodation of furniture was a challenge, but we changed a few things and retained the feel of a state transport bus. Additionally, the outside seating has been done to resemble a bus stop. This is a place for friends as well as family to hang out.”
The katta has interesting places including the famous Marine Drive around and it is the best way to unwind. Komal Aade, a chai lover adds, “All the graphics say something about chai.” The chai katta is on the must-visit list of many youngsters. Pratik Sharma, a banker who recently visited the place, says, “I had heard about the place and wanted to visit it for a while. Finally, I did. I was totally blown away by the feeling and will come back again for more.”
