IIIT-Allahabad hold open session

Over 220 students from different parts of the country attended the a day long open session for higher secondary students at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad.

ALLAHABAD: Over 220 students from different parts of the country attended the a day long open session for higher secondary students at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad. The session is part of summer school and was jointly organised by IIIT-A and NASI (National Academy of Sciences India), on Thursday.
During the session, the students visited the international level research laboratories and apprised themselves with ongoing research works.

Inaugurating the opening session, Prof P Nagabhushan, director, IIIT-A called upon students to come out from the closed door of merely practicing of passing the exams and securing ranks. He emphasised on actual learning outside the class room rather than focusing on cut throat competition of securing higher marks in the existing ritualistic exams system in the country. He advised the students to think scientifically and critically and explore their untapped potential by raising more questions.
Prof Krishna Mishra, eminent scientist, in her welcome address pointed out that the objective behind setting up of the three academy in the country including NASI (Allahabad), Indian National Sciences Academy (New Delhi) and Indian Institute of Sciences (Bangalore) was to bring out work of Indian scientists on international map in the British period.
Prof U S Tiwari, Dean, human affairs exhorted students to develop their personality fully rather focusing on securing jobs. They must be known by their creativity not by degrees.
Prof Shekhar Verma, Dean, IRP delivered an interesting talk on computation. Computer science is posing a problem in such a way that a computer can help us solve it. It is designing computing devices and programming them, he said. A drone was also displayed at stadium under the guidance of Dr Sunil Yadav.
Dr Pawan Chakarborty, associate professor IIIT-A briefed the students about IIIT-A labs and important research works.
