MMU Ambala celebrate its foundation day with blood donation camp, tree plantation

Today on September 11 the Maharishi Markendeshwar Univeristy (MMU), Sadopur, Ambala celebrated its 25th foundation day with a blood donation camp, tree plantation drive, and various other competitions at the MMU Ambala campus.

AMBALA: Today on September 11 the Maharishi Markendeshwar Univeristy (MMU), Sadopur, Ambala celebrated its 25th foundation day with a blood donation camp, tree plantation drive, and various other competitions at the MMU Ambala campus.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr Harish Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of MMU, who addressed the gathering discussing the milestones achieved by the university trust like the establishment of First self-financed Engineering College, First Medical College First Deemed University in Ambala.
Since its foundation, the group has progressed by leaps and bounds and this foundation day was celebrated with great fervour and gaiety.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of MMU, Sadopur organised Blood Donation Camp here today in collaboration with Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, Chandigarh which is also a regular event being organised by this university.

Dr. Harish Sharma, Vice-chancellor of MMU, Sadopur inaugurated the event by cutting a ribbon. Dr Harish said blood donation is considered the greatest virtue and every individual should donate blood at least once in his life. Highlighting the importance of blood donation, he said thousands of people have to undergo surgery on account of accidents on roads and for medical treatments, then blood transfusion is urgently required to save precious lives. The team of Rotary Club under the supervision of Dr. Roli Aggarwal and technical head Vijay Sudan collected the blood.

All the students, faculty members, and staff members participated voluntarily to donate blood. There were 151 registrations for Blood Donation Camp and 121 units of blood were collected. All the donors went through medical check-up before and after the blood donation and they were provided with refreshments and awarded Appreciation Certificates. Dr Roli Aggarwal said they try their best that anyone does not die because of non-availability of blood. Professor Raman Gupta, registrar MMU and Dr Dharmbir Singh, co-ordinator NSS unit MMU thanked the donors and the team of doctors as well as the organisers of this event.

A tree plantation drive was also organised under the leadership of Dr Sandeep Menon and about 101 tree saplings were planted in the campus. Dr Harish Sharma expressed his views on the importance of trees and the preservation of the environment and cautioned that if we fail to preserve the nature, Kerala like disasters may continue to happen. Besides this, the department organised various competitive activities in their respective departments.
