Passouts have no place in Trinamool Chhatra Parishad

Trinamool's student wing has no place for pass outs or casual students. KOLKATA: Trinamool's student wing has no place for pass outs or casual students. They should vacate posts immediately making way for regular students in educational institutions, said Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee after a meeting with Trinamool Chhatra Parishad office bearers and members of the advisory committee on Saturday.
The party will also overhaul the Trinamool Chhatra Prishad state committee led by Jaya Datta.
"Members who have passed out have been asked to tender their resignation within a week. New members from among regular students will be inducted in the committee," Chatterjee said. The decision is being construed as an effort by Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee to purge old hands from the student wing. Trinamool leaders have come to know that a section is into money making during college admission in connivance with those in college administration. All the pass outs functioning as office-bearers of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad have been asked to stay away from institutions.
The decision indicates a generation change in the student organisation meant to give a facelift to the TMCP when its image has taken a beating due to the intra-organisation clashes and the money making. Other members of the TMCP advisory committee - Ashok Deb, Tapas Roy, Baiswanor Chattopadhyay, former TMCP state president Jaya Dutta endorsed the proposal that came from its chairman Partha Chatterjee and co-chairman and MP Abhishek Banerjee.
"Today all general secretary and district unit presidents of TMCP along with several prominent student leaders were present in a three hour long meeting. On August 28, CM had directed us to set up an advisory committee," the committee chairman said. Senior Trinamool minister and former student leader Subrata Mukherjee threw his weight behind the decision while addressing the meeting at Trinamool Bhavan and spelt out the do's and donts for student leaders as Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee had charted out during the student gathering at Mayo Road in August.
"Our main aim is to motivate students in nation building and bring in fresh blood in the organisation Efforts will be made to encourage girl students to take the lead in students' unions," the committee chairman said.
Former student leaders have been categorically asked against entering colleges or universities even in exigency. "No outsiders will be allowed to enter without permission from college authorities. The sole discretion in this regard lies with the management," Chatterjee said. This effort by the TMCP will help the administration to stop former leaders of other student organisations to get entry in campus.
However, there will be a blend of the old and the new. "Brining in new faces is our priority. But we will retain some old hands because the inexperienced lot can't run the organisation," Chatterjee said.
