MUMBAI: Taking stern action after receiving a complaint of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ against him by a teammate, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Thursday banned Musheer Khan, who led the Mumbai Under-16 team this season, for three years on account of ‘indiscipline’.
The 14-year-old allrounder, who bowls left-arm spin, will not be eligible to play in any MCA tournament, let alone play for the Mumbai team at any level.

The ban is a huge blow to the talented youngster, who, along with Prithvi Shaw, received a special award from batting legend Sachin Tendulkar in 2013 at an MCA function.
“We took this decision considering the seriousness of the situation. We’ve sympathy for the boy, but we’ve to draw a line somewhere when it comes to discipline. Being the captain, he should’ve set an example,” Unmesh Khanvilkar, MCA jt secretary, told TOI on Thursday. “We’ll appeal against this decision,” said Naushad Khan, Musheer’s father and coach. Lashing out at the MCA, Nadeem Memon, former managing committee member and current secretary of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA), said: “This boy is an outstanding talent. This is a case of personal grudge. He could’ve been let off with a last warning. How can they ban him without giving him a show-cause notice?” he lamented.
