India beat China to stay afloat

A day after doing down meekly in the first round on Tuesday, India scripted a 3-0 win over host China in a Group C league match to keep their hope alive of qualifying for the knock out phase in the WSF women's world team championship in Dalian, China on Wednesday.

CHENNAI: A day after doing down meekly in the first round on Tuesday, India scripted a 3-0 win over host China in a Group C league match to keep their hope alive of qualifying for the knock out phase in the WSF women's world team championship in Dalian, China on Wednesday.
Eleventh seeded India's next and last match in the Group against the sixth seed, France on Thursday will now be a crucial affair.
India will definitely have to win over France in order to move ahead.
Against China, Sunayna Kuruvilla, back from her exploits in the just-concluded Asain Games and the number one player representing India, set the tone for the team's victory with her win over China's top player Li Dong Jin over four games. Tanvi Khanna then ensured the win-margin was extended with her win and Aparajitha Balamurukan completed the fomality.
With the top two Indian players Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal Karthik withdrawing at the last minute, India's stock had tumbled a bit and their seeding dropped to 11.
On Tuesday, Aparajitha Balamurukan, Tanvi Khanna and Sunayna Kuruvilla are representing the country and against USA the trio could not do much.Only Tanvi could pluck a game against Olivia Blatchford else the third seeded American side went about smoothly.
In all participants from 16 countries are taking part in the championship being held for the first time in China.
